Parquet Flooring Melbourne
Bespoke herringbone, chevron (fishbone) and Versailles parquetry, crafted in European Oak and the world’s finest timbers — made to order and professionally installed.
Factory-direct prices, backed by 40 years of timber experience.
Timber Floors With Timeless Character
Parquet flooring is created by arranging individual timber pieces into striking geometric patterns — from classic herringbone and elegant chevron (fishbone) to the grand Versailles panel. The result is a floor with depth, movement and a sense of craftsmanship that plank flooring simply can’t match. If you are still weighing it up, our guide explains what parquet flooring is and how it is made.
At Yida (Door & Floor), we design, supply and install bespoke parquet flooring for homes and commercial spaces across Melbourne. Because we manufacture and import direct, you get genuine premium timber, expert pattern-setting and factory-direct pricing — all from one team.
Made to order in your choice of timber species, finish and layout, and available as both solid and engineered boards (including underfloor-heating compatible options), our parquet floors can be sanded and refinished over decades — a true long-term investment in your home.
Choose Your Parquetry Pattern
The parquetry patterns we craft — all made to order in your chosen timber and finish. Read our side-by-side comparison of herringbone vs chevron: which pattern suits your room.

Rectangular blocks set at 90° create a woven, light-catching texture. The timeless classic — equally at home in heritage and modern interiors.

Boards cut at an angle and joined point-to-point form continuous clean V-lines. Sleek, contemporary and distinctly European.

Grand framed panels inspired by French palaces — the ultimate statement floor for entrances, living and formal rooms.

Square blocks woven in a basket-like grid, or intricate mosaic inlays — characterful patterns ideal for feature areas and heritage restorations.

Six-sided timber blocks form a striking honeycomb — a bold, contemporary geometric floor that becomes the centrepiece of a room.

Have a design in mind? We craft bespoke patterns to order — combining timbers, borders and motifs unique to your space.
The Timber Makes the Floor
Parquet looks its best in the right timber. Our signature is European Oak — stable, beautifully grained and ideal for parquetry — alongside French Oak, American Walnut and other premium species sourced worldwide.
Choose your finish to match your interior:

Solid or Engineered Parquet?
Both are genuine timber on the surface. The right choice depends on your subfloor, whether you have underfloor heating, and your budget. We’ll guide you.
| Solid Parquet | Engineered Parquet | |
|---|---|---|
| Construction | One solid piece of hardwood | Real timber top layer on a stable plywood core |
| Underfloor heating | Limited (select ranges only) | Yes — ideal for heated floors |
| Stability | Good with correct prep | Excellent — resists movement & humidity |
| Re-sanding | Many times over decades | Several times (depends on top-layer thickness) |
| Best for | Buyers seeking premium quality, natural beauty and lasting long-term value | Concrete slabs, heated floors, wider patterns and high-stability projects |

Parquetry Over Underfloor Heating
Want the beauty of parquet with cosy heated floors? Our engineered parquet ranges are fully compatible with underfloor heating, and we also offer dedicated heat-stable timber options — so you can enjoy a genuine timber parquet floor that stays stable through Melbourne’s temperature swings.
Ask our team which timber, board and finish will perform best with your specific heating system and subfloor.

What Moves The Material Price
- Timber species & grade — European Oak vs walnut, prime vs rustic grade.
- Pattern complexity — herringbone vs Versailles panels.
- Solid vs engineered & board thickness.
- Finish — oiled, brushed, lacquered or custom stain.
What Moves The Install Price
- Supply only or supplied & installed, plus subfloor preparation.
- Old flooring removal — carpet, tile or existing timber pickup and disposal.
- Layout complexity — borders, thresholds and feature panels take longer.
- Area & site access — larger areas are more cost-effective; tight access can add time.
Why Is There a Price Range?
Factory-finished or finished on site? A factory-applied coating is cured under controlled conditions, so the finish is highly consistent and the floor is walkable almost straight away. Finishing on site costs more because the floor is sanded flat and coated after installation — the room is out of use for a few days — but it removes the micro-bevels between boards and gives a genuinely seamless surface. That difference shows most on intricate patterns such as Versailles panels.

How We Install Your Parquet Floor
Parquetry lives or dies by the set-out. Our installers plan every pattern before a single board goes down.
We discuss pattern, timber and finish, then provide a detailed quote.
We check and prepare your concrete or timber subfloor for a flat, stable base.
The pattern is set out precisely from the centre, then laid and aligned by hand.
We sand, finish and clean — leaving a balanced, ready-to-enjoy floor.
Care & Maintenance
Parquet flooring is easy to live with. Sweep or vacuum regularly, wipe spills promptly, and clean with a slightly damp mop and a timber-floor cleaner — never soaking wet. Use felt pads under furniture and mats at entries to protect the surface.
Because it’s real timber, parquet can be re-sanded and refinished years down the track to look brand new — something laminate and vinyl can never offer. With simple care, a quality parquet floor lasts for decades.

Matching Your Parquet Floor to Your Doors
Most Melbourne suppliers mill floors or make doors, not both. We do both in our own factories, which means the timber species, stain and sheen on your entry door can be specified against the parquet going down in the same room — not matched by eye from two separate samples.

| Approach | What it looks like | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Match | Door and floor in the same species and stain, so the timber reads as one material through the space | Open entries where the floor runs straight up to the door; smaller rooms that benefit from continuity |
| Contrast | A deliberately darker or lighter door against the parquet — for example a deep-toned entry door over pale European Oak | Statement entrances; herringbone and chevron floors that already carry strong visual movement |
| Tie with a third element | Door and floor differ, but a shared element such as the threshold, skirting or a metal finish links them | Heritage homes where existing joinery sets the palette; renovations where the floor is staying |
Thresholds and transitions
Parquet needs more thought at a doorway than plank flooring does. Herringbone and chevron run on a diagonal, so the pattern meets the threshold at an angle rather than a clean straight edge, and where that cut lands changes how the doorway reads from both rooms.
A threshold detailed in the same timber as either the floor or the door keeps that junction looking deliberate. If your doors and your floor are being chosen at the same time, it is worth settling the transition early — the two are easier to resolve together than one after the other.
The same team can quote your custom timber doors and your parquet floor together, including copper entry doors where you want the entrance to stand apart from the timber inside.
